The first data call is not including any outcome measures to foster wide participation and establishment of a trustful framework in the first step.
Questions & Answers
Key takeaways from the webinar
The steering committee, which is also the research committee, will keep try on the project with the data use and make sure to avoid multiple use of the data for the same study questions.
Yes, an excel template is available at https://www.eurospine.org/spineatlas/registration
Please include all your LDS patients operated between 1 February and 30 April 2025 that consented and that are >18 y.o. Overall, we can't estimate the total number included cases in the data call. For an average spine unit there may be about 10 LDS patients.
- please sent it to spineatlas@eurospine.org
- you are not required to send it though. the conformity with the local regulation is the responsibility of the participant, but your application and approval may be helpful to see / reference and user for other participants in their IRB-requests.
Yes, you can use your system, extract the required data that you are sharing and submit them either as a text file csv or similar.
Primary surgery will be defined as such if the patient was not operated on the same or adjacent level so far.
We now removed this option (grade 0) from the updated excel template.
We amended the Excel template after the webinar, so that you can choose both of them in the data collection template. This is already the case in Spine Tango.
Following the webinar, we adapted the excel template to allow for multiple choice. We will make sure in the code book that this will be a multiple choice question and you would be able to select several types of decompression.
Not structurally collected in this data call. The currently collected data will be less granular. Please provide details under “other decompression”
Agree. We will add the definition of how to measure it to the code book asap.
Yes. no limitation re. the number of treated levels
This is true. the current set of questions is based on the data structures from established registries is a kind of minimal denominator of questions and answers between them. in the current data call we will not collect indirect decompression as a structure answer, but please specify it under "other decompression".
In a simple excel structure we will not be able to identify it. the Spine Atlas will count both treatments as performed in this case and do not stratify the analysis by level. In Spine Tango you can register levels for each type of surgical measures separately. Facti: for SAI you don't have to be as granular. But if you want too for your data, you need a mature surgery form like Spine Tango.
